McDONELL BECOMES SHAREHOLDER

12/13/05– TAMPA.   Macfarlane Ferguson & McMullen is pleased to announce that NOEL P. McDONELL has been named a shareholder of the firm.  Ms. McDonell’s practice at the firm focuses on environmental law, labor and employment, criminal litigation and professional licensure. She received her law degree in 1990 from Florida State University College of Law.  In 2001 Ms. McDonell was appointed by Governor Bush to the Florida Real Estate Commission and served as a Commissioner until 2005.  She also served on The Florida Bar Eminent Domain Committee and prior to joining Macfarlane Ferguson & McMullen was an Assistant Statewide Prosecutor for Computer Crime and Identity Theft Unit of the Office of Statewide Prosecution, Lead Trial Attorney at the Office of the State Attorney for the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit and Felony Prosecutor at the Office of the State Attorney for the Twelfth Judicial Circuit.

10/4/05– TAMPA.   Macfarlane Ferguson & McMullen is pleased to welcome new associates MELISSA A. REGISTER and CHRISTA L. STERLING to the firm. 

Melissa A. Register received her law degree from University of Florida in 2005 and has a B.A. in French and International Trade from Clemson University.  She will represent individuals in estate planning, probate, estate and trust administration and will represent nonprofit organizations and small and large businesses in a broad range of corporate and business matters. 

Christa L. Sterling has joined the firm’s Real Estate Practice Group and will focus her practice on real estate, tax, and business related issues.  Ms. Sterling earned her law degree in May 2005 from Florida State University where she also received her undergraduate degree in Finance and Accounting. Prior to joining Macfarlane Ferguson & McMullen, Ms. Sterling clerked throughout law school for Ausley & McMullen, P.A, in Tallahassee. 
 

BROWN JOINS FIRM

09/16/05 – TAMPA.   Macfarlane Ferguson & McMullen is pleased to announce that FRANK E. BROWN has joined the firm as a Shareholder in the Labor & Employment Law Division.  Mr. Brown has over 16 years of experience in employment law issues.  He received his law degree (with honors) from Florida State University College of Law in 1987. 

Mr. Brown is admitted to practice in the federal courts of the Northern, Southern and Middle Districts of Florida, the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals, the United States Supreme Court and the state courts of Florida.  He is Board Certified in Labor and Employment by The Florida Bar and is a member of the City, County and Local Government, Labor and Employment, Government Lawyers sections; and the Federal Court Practice Committee of The Florida Bar.  He serves as a member of the Executive Council of the Labor & Employment Law Section, and serves on the faculty of the section's Employment Law Trial Skills program.  He is also a member of the Labor & Employment Law Sections of the American Bar Association and the Hillsborough County Bar Association.  He has lectured at numerous Continuing Legal Education and other professional seminars on employment topics, and is the author of several publications in the areas of labor and employment law and civil litigation, including the chapter on Federal Court Discovery (along with the Honorable Elizabeth A. Jenkins) of the Eleventh Circuit Federal Civil Practice Before Trial guide. 

Mr. Brown was named in the 2004 and 2005 editions of Florida Trend's "Legal Elite," the 2004 and 2005 editions of Chambers USA's "American Leading Lawyers for Business" and the 2006 edition of The Best Lawyers in America, all in the field of labor and employment law. 
 

STAINTON APPOINTED TO THE FEDERAL JUDICIAL NOMINATING COMMISSION FOR THE STATE OF FLORIDA

08/22/05 – TAMPA.   Macfarlane Ferguson & McMullen is pleased to announce that WILLIAM M. STAINTON has been appointed by Senator Mel Martinez (R-FL) to the recently formed statewide federal Judicial Nominating Commission which will provide recommendations for potential nominees to the Florida Federal District Courts. 

Mr. Stainton received his law degree from Stetson University College of Law in 2003.  He practices in the firm's Tampa office in the areas of business & corporate law, commercial litigation, tax planning and estate planning.
 
STEWART APPOINTED TO FLORIDA BOARD OF BAR EXAMINERS

07/11/05 – TAMPA.   Macfarlane Ferguson & McMullen is pleased to announce that CAROLYN HOUSE STEWART has been appointed by the Supreme Court of Florida to the Florida Board of Bar Examiners. 

Ms. Stewart is a shareholder in the firm’s Tampa office.  She received her law degree from the University of South Carolina College of Law and practices civil litigation in the areas of personal injury, labor and employment, eminent domain, products liability and casualty litigation.
 

MAGIDSON ELECTED  TO STETSON BOARD OF OVERSEERS

05/09/05 - TAMPA -- Macfarlane Ferguson & McMullen is pleased to announce that JOSHUA MAGIDSON has been elected to Stetson University College of Law’s Board of Overseers. 

Mr. Magidson is a shareholder in the firm’s Clearwater office.  He is a 1980 alumni of Stetson and practices law in the area of business litigation, with an emphasis in real property litigation, probate litigation, auto dealership and bankruptcy issues involving creditors’ rights.
 

REYNOLDS RE-ELECTED TRUSTEE FOR 13TH JUDICIAL CIRCUIT

3/29/05 - Tampa -- STEPHEN H. REYNOLDS has been re-elected by Attorneys’ Title Insurance Fund as Trustee for the 13th Judicial Circuit for a third term beginning July 1, 2005.

Mr. Reynolds is a shareholder in the firm’s Tampa office.  He has practiced law for 35 years in the areas of real estate and land use with an emphasis on issues dealing with owning, buying and selling real estate, including development and regulatory issues and title insurance.
 

TAMPA BAY’S OLDEST PRACTICING ATTORNEY RETIRED

2/1/05 - Tampa-- T. PAINE KELLY, JR., a Shareholder of Florida’s oldest law firm, Macfarlane Ferguson & McMullen, retired after 69 years of practicing law.  Mr. Kelly was born in Tampa in 1912, received his law degree from the University of Florida and was admitted to The Florida Bar on February 8, 1936. When Plant High School first opened its doors in 1926, Mr. Kelly was one of the first students to attend.  He graduated from Plant High School in 1929.  During World War II, he was a Lt. Colonel in the Army and served as a Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1946-1950.

Mr. Kelly is the oldest and longest practicing lawyer in the Tampa Bay area.  He is the second oldest practicing attorney in the State of Florida.  For most of his years in practice Mr. Kelly has been a trial lawyer, however, for the last five years he has concentrated primarily in estate planning.

12/1/04 -- Macfarlane Ferguson & McMullen is pleased to announce that James A. Martin, Jr., was elected President-Elect of the Florida Academy of Healthcare Attorneys on November 18, 2004, at the Annual Meeting of the Florida Hospital Association in Orlando.    Currently, Mr. Martin serves as Secretary and will assume the Presidency in 2006.   Mr. Martin is a Shareholder and Director in the firm’s Clearwater office.  His practice is concentrated in the areas of medical malpractice, labor and employment, litigation, civil rights, and professional liability. 

The Florida Academy of Healthcare Attorneys serves the Florida Hospital Association and its members in legal matters and in lobbying for and drafting legislation relating to the needs of the FHA’s membership which includes over 215 hospitals, 20 Professional Membership Groups, and over 1,800 professional members. 
 

7/29/04 -- Carolyn House Stewart re-elected national Secretary of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority

Macfarlane Ferguson & McMullen is pleased to announce that Carolyn House Stewart, has been re-elected National Secretary of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.  The Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority was founded in 1908 on Howard University’s campus.  Ms. Stewart will help lead the 97-year old international service organization of 170,000 college-trained women.  Prior to her election Ms. Stewart served as president of the local Gamma Theta Omega Chapter and Chairman of the International Program Committee.  Under her guidance as program chair, the Sorority completed many diverse service projects, including raising funds for Sickle Cell research, awarding scholarships, mentoring over 15,000 at-risk children and funding and building 10 schools in South Africa.

Ms. Stewart is a shareholder of the firm and practices law in the Tampa office in the areas of labor & employment law, personal injury, eminent domain, insurance defense, commercial litigation and products liability.

7/22/04 MAGIDSON REAPPOINTED BY BUSH TO NOMINATING COMMISSION

Macfarlane Ferguson & McMullen is pleased to announce that Josh Magidson has been reappointed by Governor Bush to serve a second 4-year term as Commissioner to the Sixth Judicial Circuit Judicial Nominating Commission. 

 Mr. Magidson, a shareholder in Macfarlane Ferguson & McMullen’s Clearwater office, focuses his practice in bankruptcy and civil litigation, with an emphasis in real property litigation, probate litigation and auto dealership law.

6/14/04- MICHELLE C. PITTMAN JOINS MACFARLANE FERGUSON & McMULLEN

Macfarlane Ferguson & McMullen is pleased to announce that Michele C. Pittman has joined the firm.  Her practice will focus on litigation, including tort litigation, constitutional issues, particularly First Amendment issues, and National Security Law.    

 Ms. Pittman received her law degree from Stetson University College of Law, magna cum laude, in 2003.  Prior to joining the firm she litigated insurance defense cases.  She clerked at the Department of Navy Office of General Counsel in 2002 and served as legal intern at the office of the Judge Advocate General at the office of the Command Judge Advocate, United States Disciplinary Barracks in 2001.

5/5/04 -- And The Defense Wins

Andrew M. Brown,  a partner in the law firm of Macfarlane Ferguson & McMullen and Andrew S. Bolin, an associate with the firm, achieved an important defense verdict in a week-long medical malpractice case in Tampa, Florida. The wrongful death medical malpractice case involved a woman who died as the result of a bleed, which was caused by the deployment of a stent in her renal artery.  Read the full story published by the DRI (Defense Research Institute).

Macfarlane Ferguson & McMullen is pleased to announce that Jeffrey W. Gibson recently joined the firm’s Litigation Practice Group.  Mr. Gibson’s practice will focus on insurance defense, products liability and commercial litigation. 

Mr. Gibson received his B.A., magna cum laude, from the University of Tampa in 1998 and was awarded his law degree, with honors, from the University of Florida Levin College of Law in 2001. He has practiced law in Tampa since graduating from law school.

Ms. McDonell received her law degree in 1990 from Florida State University College of Law.  She brings extensive trial experience to her practice.  Prior to joining the firm she was an Assistant Statewide Prosecutor for Computer Crime and Identity Theft Unit of the Office of Statewide Prosecution where, in addition to conducting all aspects of multi-jurisdictional litigation, she was a member of Operation L.E.G.I.T. (Law Enforcement Getting Identity Thieves), a task force formed to identify, dismantle and prosecute organized identity theft rings.  Her previous litigation experience includes Lead Trial Attorney at the Office of the State Attorney for the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit and Felony Prosecutor at the Office of the State Attorney for the Twelfth Judicial Circuit.

Natalie C. Charles A. “Cam” Moore is a 1998 graduate of the University of Virginia School of Law.  His practice focuses on assisting small and large businesses in a broad range of matters, including selection of entity structure, business planning, transactions involving the merger, sale and acquisition of businesses and contract negotiations.  He also practices in the area of estate planning, as well as trust and estate matters involving the IRS.
